A small needle, the size of a hair, is inserted into the hair follicle. A low-level current is then applied for a few seconds. The hair is then released and gently removed with tweezers. Each session takes time as each hair is individually treated, but with a proper treatment plan, it’s a permanent hair removal solution to unwanted hair.
The most common area for electrolysis is the face (chin, neck, cheeks, upper lip). Then aerolas, under arms, neck and shoulders are the next requested service. You can treat almost anywere in the body except inside the nostrils and ears.
Yes, it is safe, however, I highly recommend an Electrologist who is certified and part of an association. They should be using single-use filaments that are immediately disposed of in a sharps bin following treatment. As a legal business, Alberta Health inspects the clinic and reviews my infection control protocols.
Electrolysis is effective on ALL hair colours and hair types including white and red hair. It is also ideal on black and brown skin tones compared to other methods. It is the ONLY method of hair removal that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states as permanent.
It takes an average of 12 to 24 months of treatment. It varies person to person, due to hair thickness, hormones, the amount of hair present and previous method of hair removal. As your treatment progresses, you will notice the hair become thinner until it's permanently gone.
You will have discomfort, like a stinging sensation during treatment. Some people use numbing cream before their treatment. After treatment, your skin may be red, inflamed and tender, but these temporary side effects. Each person has a different pain tolerance, and we try to make the person as comfortable as possible by adjusting settings.
I specialize in clients who have melanated skin. The microscope allows me to be as accurate and careful to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
A microscope allows for near-perfect insertions. Those follicles are tiny, so the better the accuracy, the better the results. This makes a big difference for clients with sensitive or melanated skin.
Your first consultation appointment will be 30 to 40 minutes. This ensures we have ample time to discuss your treatment goals, assess your hair and skin, complete a sample patch and discuss the treatment best suited for you. The hair needs to be long enough to grab with tweezers. Allow at least three days of hair growth for me to be able to properly test the hairs and build the best plan for you going forward.
I accept e-transfers and cash payments. I currently don’t accept debit or credit card payments. At this point, I do not offer direct billing, but if you are eligible for electrolysis coverage through your insurance provider, a receipt will be provided.
While some days may vary, I'm generally available Monday-Friday 10 am-3 pm, with the occasional Saturday for appointments.
